Summary - Settling in the Netherlands

Developments in the social situation of Polish and Bulgarian migrants to the Netherlands in the first years following migration

Original title: Langer in Nederland

What happens to the position of Poles and Bulgarians in the Netherlands in the first years following migration? This publication is based on information from a panel survey which tracks Polish and Bulgarian migrants in the first years after their entry in the Dutch population register. Do we see any changes in how long they plan to stay? What developments take place in their labour market position, their command of Dutch and their social contacts in the Netherlands? Are there any changes in their satisfaction with their lives and their experiences in the Netherlands?

This study follows on from an earlier SCP publication (‘New in the Netherlands’/Nieuw in Nederland) and was carried out at the request of the Integration and Society (I&S) Directorate at the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.
