Summary - Independent for longer

The Dutch government's reform of long-term care is intended to reinforce the trend whereby older persons continue to live independently for longer and the need for admission to a care institution is avoided or delayed.

Original title: Langer zelfstandig.

Many Dutch citizens aged 65 years and older are able to continue living independently for a long time in their own neighbourhood and their own home with different kinds of care and support. In this study, the Netherlands Institute for Social Research ¦ SCP describes which care, provisions, personal and social resources over-65s in the Netherlands use, and how long this enables them to continue living independently before they move into a residential care or nursing home or die.
