Summary - Cultural life in the Netherlands
Ten cultural domains viewed from fourteen core themes
Original title: "Het culturele leven"
Cultural life is an important part of societal life whilst also playing an important role in the personal lives of many people. It is of spatial, social and economic importance, it offers opportunities for identification and discussion, as well as for relaxation and self-reflection.
In this report, the Netherlands Institute for Social Research (SCP) presents a model for a periodic overview of that cultural life by studying ten cultural domains from the perspective of fourteen core themes. This model is then applied to studying cultural life in the Netherlands over the 2012-2017 period, using numerous sources of information.
A major part of the information on cultural engagement of the Dutch population is based on the Leisure Survey conducted by SCP in cooperation with Statistics Netherlands. Many details from that survey are published here for the first time.
